Note: According to his son George Thomas Berry Sr, T.J.T. Berry's two middle names were not family names. When he was born, his father decided that his middle name would be the name of the first man he met in the street after the baby's birth. As it happened, a Mr. Johnson and a Mr. Turner came along together at the right time and were thus immortalized. Del Norte Triplicate January 26, 1917: Thomas J. T. Berry Thomas J. T. Berry was born in New Oregon, Iowa, on January 2, 1858, and died at his home at Berteleda, in Del Norte county, California, on January 17, 1917, aged 59 years and 15 days. He grew to manhood in Iowa, coming to Del Norte county some thirty-five years ago, and has taken an active part in business and political affairs. He represented the First district in the Assembly for a number of terms and was always a prominent and active participant in movements for the advancement of the city and county. His name will always be associated with the history of Del Norte county. He leaves to mourn his loss a devoted wife, one brother, a much loved son and daughter and countless personal friends throughout the county and state.
