 Written on the same sheet of paper as the beginning of a letter from John Quincy Adams Jones dated Sept. 25th, 1858:
  Havana Mason County Illinois September th 22
 my Dear Children I now take a pen to inform you of my health which is verry good and hope to hear that you enjoy the same great blefsing. I Came here to live with Quincy last thursday and want you to direct your letters to this place till informed otherwise this is a town on the south side of the Illinois river ten miles from Lewistown I have had no letter from you since I wrote to you I had one from Pyra she wrote that John had been verry sick but was getting better our Connections are all well I have let Walter New Come have one hundred dollars of your money and the rest I have not divided Daniel Sherman has got home they sent him money to Come with, please to write soon this from your Mother Minerva Jones to Martin VB Jones and Mariah R. Jones

  Middle grove february the 7th 1864
 my dear Children I received your kind letter about A month ago and answered it but for fear you wont get it and wont write to me till you do get one from me I will write again although i hardly know what to write Oh Clarinda Baker is married Euphema Merrill is married the horse old Ellek is dead it has been a hard winter on man or beast the deepest snow and the Coldest weather that i ever see in Illinois but the snow is gone now and it is good weather John Russel and Jack Jacobus is fixing to go to Idaho to dig gold
 i told Walter the fore part of winter if he would take my Cow and keep her at his own price or keep her anyhow for i found out that i Could take Care of a Cow and myself too so now i am trying to take Care of myself alone and now Ephraim i advise you if you have plenty of mony to give it to Halls folks and see that your Children have plenty of Masters perhaps you remember living at your grandfathers Elmer is some this from your Mother Minerva Jones

 I do sympathise with you for the little ones you to have the care of and hope you will have health and strength to do it with is there schools and what is the state of society how I wish i Could see you all but i am aged and infirm it seems as though i Could not stay here on earth much longer so good bye farewell write as often as you Can one and all of you this from your Mother
