  SYNOPSIS from ROYAL NAVAL RECORD of RICH. C. DYER - PLYMOUTH, ENGLAND.
  Master's Asst. in 1843 - Second Masters of Appolo 1849 during Cholera epedemic on board. Commanded boat expedition from the ship Castor in 1850. Captured three Slavers in Mozambique Channel, recieved thanks of Commander-in-Chief. Second Master in Charge of Radamanthus during Kaffir Ward 1851-2. (Kaffir Medal) Second Master in Charge of Jasper blown up in Baltic in 1854. Also in charge of Zephyer at bombardment of Bomarsond and other operations. Master of Merlin when struck by torpedo at Cronstadt in 1855. Took part bombardment of Sveborg, placing mortar boats in position (Baltic Medal). Master of Amethyst 1857-8 Fosthan and other operations in Canton River Commanded a guard boat above the City; was attacked by war galley expressly fitted out to cut her off. Captured her after 30 minutes action. Received thanks of Commander-in-Chief, The Admiralty and British Plenipotentiary, Lord Elgin (China Medal). Commanded three boats of same ship detached at midnight Oct. 1859 to cut out a brig from under the batteries of Mazatlan Harbor at request of American Consul General. The Mexicans being about to pillage her, she was brought out of the harbor and for this service received the thanks of the Americans whose property she had on board. In 1877 when in command of ship Industry on West Coast of Africa picked up Mr. Stanley and remnants of his expedition - 130 in number -and conveyed them to the Cape of Good Hope and Zanzibar. In March 1878 was commissioned by the Cape Government to annex Woolick Bay and territory to that colony, for which services he received the thanks of Home Government and Admiralty. Was staff captain in Malta Dockyards 1884 to 1886. Nautical assessor to Board of trade 1887 to 1895 and Nautical Assessor to judicial committee to priviy G.H.P. 1906.
  The above Capt. R.C. Dyer pensioned and living at Edgecombe Lodge, Newton Abbot, Devon, England, aged 91 years - January 1916.
  (Richard Dyer Bray added the following pencilled note:
 "Above old Warrior was Mother's youngest brother, and I was named after him--So you kids can say you have fighting English blood.")
 Also pencilled in are Capt. Dyer's dates: b. 1825, d. 1918.
