Notes
a. Note:   At the age of 12 years John, with his parents moved from Mchenry County, IL to Sturgeon Bay, WI, where the family lived for 5 years. Then they relocated in Crawford County, KS.
He later returned to Sturgeon Bay where he became a sailor and captain of the schooner Lucy Graham. He married Sarah A. Thayer at Sturgeon Bay. The family located at Moran, KS in 1884, where they lived until moving to a farm 8 miles NW of Moran.
As long as the family lived in Moran, the principal occupation of John was that of a hay dealer and as such was known all over this section of the state. He continued this business after moving to the farm, but not to the extent as before. He was one of the hardest working men there ever was at this community And will be missed by all. The above appeared in the Moran Herald, late March 1915.
John died from pneumonia after falling from the top of a wagon loaded with hay. The funeral was held from the home, conducted by Rev. G.W. Lane.
John and Sarah are buried in the Vaughn plot in the Moran cemetery. It is in the "old" section north of the road.
After John Henry died, his wife Sarah Alvira moved from Moran to Iola, Kansas to live with their son Ralph, on N. Jefferson Street.
