a. Note:   D.C. Vaughn died of Chronic Hepatitis at his home three miles east of the city on Wednesday, aged 89 years, 6 months, and 26 days. He lived in Washington County NY until a grown man, when he went to McHenry County IL. From IL they moved to Sturgeon Bay, WI where, he and John James were engaged in the "lumber business", moving to KS in 1871.
 Delos was one of the first settlers of Cherokee and helped to build and establish the mill and ran it for several years. He then moved to the farm. He was the oldest of 14 children , of whom a brother and sister of NY survive him. Funeral services were held at the residence at 2 PM by Rev W.C. Paden of the Presbyterian Church under the auspices of the A.H.T.A. Lodge in which he took a great interest. Bowman Undertaking of Pittsburgh was in charge. Delos and Abbie's graves are on the south edge of the Cherokee Cemetery and marked by a rather large dark gray marker. This obituary is from the Cherokee Index of 14 July, 1915.
  Delos and Abbie were in the 1870 Federal Census of Door County WI , in the town of Sturgon Bay.
 The following article is from the Cherokee Index of 7 July 1986, The Merchant Mills were erected by Stephen Alberty and D.C. Vaughn. The site was donated by the railroad as they wished to encourage such substantial improvements.
  Delos was listed as a lumberman in the 1870 Federal census.
