Note: Mr. Arthur C. Vaughn, a pioneer resident of Crawford County, died athis home in the east part of Cherokee on Sunday, December 28th. Arthur,a farmer, died from Acute Nephritis after receiving injuries in a fallfrom his barn roof while doing repairs. He moved to Baker Township inCrawford county KS from Harvard, IL when he was 5 years of age with hisparents. He lived in and around Cherokee for the past 60 years He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Modern Woodman lodge,I.O.O.F., A.T.A., and Rebekahs. He leaves to mourn his departure his widow, Mrs. Theresa Vaughn, three sons, John of the home,Ernest of Cherokee and Fred of Coffeyville, one daughter, Mrs. C.R. Williams of Coffeyville, one sister, Mrs. Frank Webster of Cherokee, one brother, George Vaughn of Salida, CO, and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev. Roy Sturgell and burial in the Cherokee Cemetery. From the Cherokee newspaper of 2 Jan 1931. Theresa Kelly was born in New Hampshire, the daughter of James C. Kelly and Nora Ann Curtis. James was killed in the Civil War and his widow brought Theresa and her four siblings, Ed, Jim, Fred, and Julia to Rolla, MO, presumably where she and Arthur met and were married. To this marriage were born five children, Ernest, Fred, Mary, Arthur, and Johnny. Theresa died from Coronary Thrombosis. She was buried in the N.W. corner of lot No. 8 Block 7 2nd addition ,Cherokee Cemetery. This information is from a letter to Donald Vaughn from the city clerk of Cherokee dated 28 Feb 1980 from the files at her office. The letter gives information on the death of several other Vaughns.
