Note: From the Racine Weekly Advocate, 7 Oct 1863. Edwin Rouse another of our brave boys has fallen a victim to this unholy and accursed rebellion. Edwin Rouse, grandson of Mr. Abner Rouse of this city, enlisted under Capt. Lyon in the 8th WI Regt. and was assigned under to Co. K. "A braver boy never shouldered a musket" was Capt. Bartlett's tribute. In the advance on Cornith he received quite a serious flesh wound and when told by his Capt. to fall to the rear and have it dressed "No" he said " I am not yet disabled. They have wounded me, I will stay and have my revenge". Only 21 years, yet a victim of disease contracted in the service he died at his grandfather's on Oct. 5.
