He was a coal miner and later he was an automobile mechanic. Bass was killed while driving on an ice covered road, couldn't stop at the stop sign and slid into the path of an 18 wheeler and was killed.

Bass Jones
Bass Jones, 75, Harlan, was fatally injured Wednesday morning in an automobile accident near Barbourville. A native of Jellico, he had lived here 70 years. He was last employed by Brown Motors.
Services will be conducted Saturday at 1 PM in the Chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery with Rev. John D Lambert officiating. In addition to his wife, Polly, he is survived by one daughter, Charlene Tamagni, two step sons, Danny Hall, Harlan, Don Davis, Florida, and two step daughters, Diane Ball, Ft Knox and Sandra Fritz, Detroit.
Also surviving are two grandchildren (Ken & Sue Hornung) and four Great Grandchildren (Diana, Daniel, Denise and Dustin White): A brother Huber, Kitts, and two sisters, Opal Jones, Kitts, and Nell Ennis, Colorado.
Pallbearers will be Wallace Wilhoit, James Wilhoit, Glen Ramey, Lon Sutton, Kenneth Farmer and Michael Ball.
The family will receive friends after 4pm Friday in the he Chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home.
Bass Jones was my papaw and the time he died we lived in Louisville Kentucky. The night before we received 22 inches of snow and all the roads and airports were closed. We weren't able to attend the funeral but visited the grave site that June.
He left my mother $1.00.
