  After William R Vaughn's death, Nancy Jackson kept the name Jackson instead of Vaughn, and all the children grew up using the last name of Jackson.

  This indentures made this 30th day of May 1847 between Barbara Helton of the County of Harlan and State of Kentucky of the one part and James Vaughn of the County and State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Barbara Helton for and in consideration of the sum of twenty five dollars to her in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell to the said James Vaughn a certain tract of land lying in the county aforesaid and on Meadow Creek of Wallins Creek of Cumberland River and bounded as follows to wit: beginning on the north side of said creek on the side of a hill at a white birch and rosewood, thence N78 E20 poles to a hickory and sassafras, thence B36 E34 poles to a white oak, thence N71 E80 poles to a birch, maple and black gum, thence S54 E62 poles to a stake, thence N36 poles to the beginning containing fifty acres with their appurtenances to the said James Vaughn his heirs and assigns to the said Barbara Helton binds herself her heirs and from all persons claiming the same in any manner whatsoever.
  In testimony whereof the said Barbara Helton has hereunto set her hand and seal the day and date finish written.

  I, John G Crump Clerk of the County Court for the aforesaid, do certify that this deed from Barbara Helton to James Vaughn this day produced to me in my office and was proven by the oath of George Helton, one of the subscribing witnesses thereto, whereupon said deed with this foregoing certificate is duly recorded in my office. Given under my hand this 4th day of August 1847.
