Notes
a. Note:   Uncle Don. Captain, Merchant Service, and great character. Was Master of [amongst many others] M.S.Jamaica Planter and M.S.Jamaica Producer. Could tell jokes like no-one else. Told a story of having been boarded by pirates in the Carribean. Fired a distress flare into the control room where the pirates were all gathered. Had a parrot that swore fluently in
 Dutch. Married Grace, who was presumably no relation to the Strudwicks of Tudie's connection.
  {Liked a pint, and had one with me now and again.
 Spoke on phone 16.12.99 sounded well, getting over stroke; finally retired, though still hankering after the sea.}
 Recounted how Uncle Wilfred would give him a farthing, and think himself generous. Janet & Polly always wore black, and white hats. Said he himself was named after Gen.Gordon. Some info on AET and Don's grandsons qv.
 16 Ros Vara Avenue, Westergate. 01243.542461
b. Note:   MQ, Pete & Susie Beevers attended his funeral 11.5.01 and met there Robert {for the first time}, and the boys, also little Jack, who was a year old. Met also Grace's sister Christine, who lives in Oldham.
