Church Obituary: (Newark Sunday News January 10, 1954) - John M. Pierce of 116 L enox Avenue, East Orange, retired principal and teacher in Drake Busine ss College, Newark, died yesterday in Orange Memorial Hospital after a bri ef illness. He was 76. Born in Indiana Country, PA., he lived in Scrant on before moving to East Orange 35 years ago. He was a graduate of India na (PA) State Teachers College. Mr. Pierce was a Mason, and a past comman der and present quartermaster of General Nelson Miles Camp, United Spani sh War Veterans, East Orange. He served as clerk of the session for 24 ye ars of Elmwood Presbyterian Church, East Orange. He leaves a daughter, Mr s. Edwin Van Brunt of East Orange, with whom he lived; a sister, Mrs. Lau ra Pierce Ewing of Rochester Mills, Pa, and two grandsons. Services wi ll be conducted Tuesday at 7:45pm at the Colonial Home, 132 South Harris on St, East Orange, by Conrad Massa pastor-designate of Elmwood Presbyteri an Church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana PA. Obituary: January 14, 1954: Funeral services for John M. Pierce of 116 Le nox Avenue , retired principal and teacher at Drake Business College, Newa rk, were conducted Tuesday at the Colonial Home by Conrad Massa, pastor-el ect of Elmwood Presbyterian Church. Mr. Pierce was born in Indiana Count ry Pa, and was 76 years old.He had lived in East Orange for 37 years, mo ving here from Scanton, Pa. Hewas graduated from Indiana State Teacher s' College and was a 32nd degree Mason. Mr. Pierce was an Elder on the se ssion of Elmwood Presbyterian Church for 24 years, during which time he se rved as clerk of session. He was a past commander and present quartermast er of teh General Nelson Miles Camp, United Spanish War Veterans, East Ora nge. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Edwin E. Van Brunt of East Orange, wi th whom he lived; a sister Mrs. Laura Pierce Ewing of Rochester Mills, Pa ., and two grandson, Edwin Van Brun Jr. and Murray.
