Custom Field:<_FA#> 190412 Sterling St. East Orange NJ Obituary: (Newark Evening News March 11, 1953) - Stephen Samuel Van Bru nt of 343 Halsted St., East Orange, a retired East Orange police sergean t, died yesterday at his home following a heart attack. He was 76. Bo rn in Lower Squankum, now Farmingdale, he lived in Hoboken before movi ng to East Orange 58 years ago. Mr. Van Brunt joined the East Orange poli ce force as a chanceman and was made sergeant in 1911. He also serv ed as acting desk sergeant. He retired 11 years ago after 39 years of ser vice. At the time of his death he had been employed as a special offic er at the Medical Towers, East Orange. Mr. Van Brunt was a member ofEss ex Council No. 161 Jr. O.U.A.M., Newark, the Superior Police Officers Asso ciation and the General Grant Council of the Sons and Daughters of Libert y, Newark. He leaves his wife Asenath Meiklejohn Van Brunt; a son, Edw in E. ofEast Orange, athletic director of Montclair Academy, and two gran dchildren. Services will be conducted Friday at 7:45 pm at The Colonial H ome, 132 SOuthHarrison Street East Orange, by Rev. John P. Jaclachl an of Elmwood Presbyterian Church, East Orange. Burial will be in Roseda le Cemetery.
