a. Note:   CLINTON ZIMMERMAN died Saturday, January 19, 1895 a horrible death
according to the "Center Point Journal" published in Center Point, Linn
County, Iowa dated January 24, 1895. It read as follows:
  "CLINT ZIMMERMAN
Killed by the Cars at Duluth Minnesota Saturday Morning.
A Telegram Saturday morning brought the sad news to the parents and
friends of the instant death of Clint Zimmerman, who reside east of town
one mile, and about thirty-one years of age. He left the farm and began
railroading eight years ago, upon the B. C. R. & N. system, raising if
we mistake not, to the responsible position of conductor of a way
freight, but through trouble with this road's officials seemingly he
left the company's employ near two years ago and went to Minnesota where
he was employed by other roads. At the time of his death he was foreman
of the wrecking gang, whose business seems to have been to clear the
tracks whenever a wreck occured. Saturday morning he had orders to get
his men out quickly to clear a wreckage and in the hurry, he stepped
between two flat cars loaded with ties to make the coupling, and the
ends of the ties extending over at the end of each car, caught him by
the back of his head, crushing him to instant death. At the slack of
the train he fell upon the track a corpse, but the wheels took a lower
limb from the body in their greed for his complete destruction. The
deceased was married November 7, 1894, and the sorrowing widow came
 along with the body.
The body was brought to Center Point for burial, it arrived Tuesday
morning on the passenger. The funeral services were conducted at the M.
 E. Church immediately upon the arrival of the body, by Rev. J. C.
Goodrich and the body interned in the cemetery adjoining town, followed
 by many sorrowing friends."
