She is survived by her father, Robert Vidmer of Lombard, her sisters, Lee Merrick of Newport Beach, CA, and her husband Tom, Tina Raine from Harbor Springs, MI and her husband, Frank, Roberta Breeden of Hinsdale and her husband Dwight, and her brother Stephen Vidmer, Oak Park. Her mother, Leah Spear Vidmer died in 2010. Claudia was born in McKeesport, PA and moved with her family to LaGrange, IL where she attended and graduated from Lyons Township High School. She was a National Merit scholar and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1978. She was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority where she made wonderful friendships which she nurtured throughout her life. Claudia had a successful career in the telecommunications field working in marketing positions at Illinois Bell, AT&T and Nortel. Her passions included reading and traveling, especially to France, Italy and Mexico but her greatest love was for her family and many friends who were always welcomed into to her warm home. She will be remembered for her quick, dry wit and for being a trusted confidant. An early childhood friend wrote that Claudia provided her "an anchor- a stability and wisdom beyond her years which created a backdrop for my entire life." This was a precious gift that Claudia bestowed on all her knew her. Claudia fought an 18 year battle with breast cancer. Her love of life sustained her through it all and our family is grateful to her medical team headed by Dr. Donald Sweet, oncologist and Dr. Hobie Summers, orthopedic surgeon, whose skill and compassion extended her life beyond expectation. Also, Claudia had special, wonderful friends who took care of her in many ways during her illness. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 30 at 2:00pm at Emmanuel Episcopal Church 203 S Kensington Ave LaGrange, IL 60525. Later in the day, the family will reconvene at the church for the baptism of Claudia's great-nephew, Robert Sutherlin Raine (Bobby). In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Claudia's name would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements by DuPage Cremations, Ltd. and Memorial Chapel (630) 293-5200.
