Notes
a. Note: HOW MARY LINK works at the WAGON SHOP Posted 11 Nov 2010 by MarilynSorvas38
From a letter dated 7 May 1962, from Carrie Sharp Scott (Mrs. John M.), 33 Dinsmore Ave., Burgettstown PA, to her first cousin, Carrie Alice Hoffman Black. Carrie Black, my maternal grandmother, had asked her cousin to write down her knowledge of the family history.
"Grandparents of the Hoffmans, Washington George Hoffman born Nov. 29, 1805, married Mary Link born Jan. 12, 1804, they were married Dec. 25, 1827. Grand Father had his arm taken off in a thrashing (threshing) machine and passed away 1854 at the age of 49. He owned a wagon shop in Noblestown, had ten men working for him, Grandmother kept and fed men. Baked a barrell of flour a week. My Dad learned his trade there served 7 years."
The writer goes on to list the 10 children born to Washington and Mary Hoffman, shown elsewhere here on Ancestry. Her personal recollections continue:
"Uncle Jeff (Jefferson) married Ruth Morrison Oct. 18-1855, that was Ida Roberts grandfather. Aunt Tillie (Mathilda E.) married Wm. Johnston Oct. 23, 1856, she was Nellie's Grand Mother. Sadie (Sarah Ann) went to art school in Memphis Tenn, can't say what school, she stayed with Uncle Tom Sharp, Pa's oldest brother, he was a col. in Southern Army and Uncle John Sharp, his brother was a Union soldier killed after reinlisting in the Union Army the second time."
