a. Note:   1. Listed in 1860 Census Conecuh County, Ala as farmer with oproperty valued at $6,900.00 2 Dr. T. H. Raines says this Jeptha J. B. "resided at Lewis Station on the Conecuh River in Conecuh Co., Ala. He served in the Indian Wars of his time.
 3. All descendants of Jeptha J. B. have spelled the name differently from their relations, instead of adhering to the old way, they have left out the second "a" and spell it "Blacksher".
 4. On July 15, 1902, Agnes Blacksher Lott wrote to Dr. Raines, "--Grandpa (Jeptha J.) dropped the "a" from the name because he did not like the broad pronunciation".
 5. On his tombstone in Alco Cemetery, near Brewton, where he lies beside his wife, are engraved these words, "An Honest Man--The noblest Work of God'."
