a. Note:   d to Prelate Sakatchewan where his sister Willa Dallard lived.Jeff rented land and for approximately 10 years he was a sucessful farmer. He purchased his own farm machinery and since all the work at that time was done with horses Jeff had twelve to fifteen horses in order to work the land.Unfortunately the land Jeff rented was not for sale and Jeff eventually decided to quit farming and move to Calgary. In Calgary he began employment with the Canadian Pacific Railway Company as a porter.Jeff purchased a home and several relatives, Purvis Bowen, Earl Heslep, and Forest Bowen rented rooms, and stayed at his place for years.Years later after I moved to Calgary Jeff told me that leaving the farm was a big mistake on his part and in retrospect he thought that had he stayed in the Prelate area other land would have became available for him to purchase.Jeff retired from the Railroad after many years service and lived in Calgary the remaining years of his life.Since Jeff left Amber Valley in the thirties I do not remember him other than the times he came back home to visit.Over the years after I came to Calgary I got to know Jeff
much more and I liked him very much.Willis Bowen Jr.and I used to drive him home from down town and we often visited him when he lived at Alex Kay's place. He was a curteous and thoughtful man and I am proud that he was my uncle.
