Note: e in civil engineering.He began his career with the City in the engineering department as the city's first special projects engineer responsible for the construction of the city's major arterial roads and expressways.Oliver, during his tenure at the city was promoted a number of times and held a number of different positions.In Sept 1977 he joined the transportation department and was promoted to manager light rail transportation construction and implementation.The Division was responsible for the designing,Implementation,and commisioning of Calgary's first light rail transit leg,commonly known as the C Train.Oliver left the City after completion of the light rail transit project and worked for Daon Development Corporation as Calgary residential project manager for approxiamatly three and one half years.In November 1984 Oliver returned to the city of Calgary and was hired as Director of the Transportation Department which included Calgary transit operations,(both bus and C train)traffic operations and transportation planning for the City.Oliver held this position for approximately fouteen years until his retirement May 01 1998.There were approximately 1800 people in Oliver's department and he travelled to Europe,the United Kingdom,Germany,Australia,the United States,and other areas of the world with city engineers and other Calgary city officials to evaluate and appraise the efficiency of Rapid Transit Train Systems in those areas of the world..The Calgary LRT (C train) is the main method of public transportation in the city of Calgary today and is one of the most efficient in North America.Oliver retired in1998 and started a consulting company, Bowen Enterprises Ltd.which was involved in major consulting proposals which involved the introduction of Light Rail Trains and Systems in to third World Countries.His company was also involved in extending the Calgary C train transit system to the outer southern limits of the of the City of Calgary. Oliver learned in the fall of 1997 that he had prostrate cancer and after a lengthy illness Oliver passed away January 1/ 2000 and was buried Jan/ 05 /2000 in the Mountain View Cemetary In Calgary.
