Among those was William Stewart ofHenry County, Missouri. He died in 1847 and his administratrixwas his widow Celia A. Stewart. She was on the 1850 census inHenry Co., age 41, born North Carolina. Her first born son wasLewis (for her father?) Do you know if Celia A. Stanton whomarried in Blount County then went to Missouri. Oh, please makemy day. If its the right family, I have found 813 of my 1000!Cheers! Marsha Rising , 12/26/01 (MHRising@email.msn.com (MarshaRising)____________________________________________________________________ Thanks for responding to my query re: Celia Stewart. She andWilliam entered their federal land in 1838 in the southern partof Henry County (which is the far north of the people in mystudy). Their land would now be under the Harry S TrumanReservoir, but it would have been in along the Osage River then.I have one big problem with the identification of this WilliamStuart and Celia Stanton. When Celia is administering William'sestate in 1843, she executed her bond under the name of "CeliaAllen Stewart." I had thought that was her maiden name, especially since she sold the land to Robert Allen. Do youhappen to know Celia Stanton's middle name?___________________________________________________________________ Response from Jim Jarvis: My CELIA had a sister in IA whonamed her youngest daughter Margaret ALAINE. Is it possiblethat your CELIA A. is really CELIA ALAINE instead of CELIAALLEN??? If you listen to it phoenetically, both names soundpretty close and you know how they were about spelling andcopying records back in those days----and it's even worse if youare a product of today's Chicago Public Schools (just kidding). It also seems odd to me that parents would give a girl themiddle name ALLEN, even if it was a mother's maiden name. Idon't think I've ever run across this, but my experience isvery, very limited. You seem to have somewhat ruled out ALLEN asa maiden name and this is a possible explanation.____________________________________________________________________ I am in Salt Lake City researching and today spent the dayon the Stewarts. Yes, I am now certain that William and CeliaA. of Henry Co. MO are the ones earlier in Blount Co. Tennesseeand who married there (I did find the marriage record). Asixteen-year old marrying in this society would not have beenunusual at all I mentioned that they named their first bornLewis. He was their second born. Their first born wasThomas....named after William's father, Thomas Stewart who diedin Blount Co. in 1823. About 1831, just after the census,William sold his land and moved to McMinn County, where hestayed until late in 1838. He then sold his land there and wentto Missouri. He died in 1847. Celia is on the census in HenryCo. in 1850 and 1860. She left a will in 1863 and died thatApril. I don't yet know where she is buried. She had onedaughter who m. a Parks and left three children and had a numberof sons. Celia A. Stewart said she was born in North Carolina.(Marsha Rising)____________________________________________________________________ STEWART, Thomas source: 1883 History of Henry Missouri ,National Historical Co., pg: 781 --- Thomas Stewart, another oldsettler of the county, was born in Blount County, EastTennessee, March 17, 1823. his father, William Stewart, and alsohis mother, whose maiden name was Celia Stanton, were natives ofthe same state, and in 1839 they moved to Missouri, settling inHenry County on Grand River, near Brownington, where theyentered land and improved a farm.
