Note: When John was a child, a school teacher struck him with a stick of firewood causing permanent damage to his neck muscles. He had to brace his neck with his hand the rest of his life. He died age 54, unmarried, no issue, and was buried in Wesleyan Methodist Church cemetery, Willow, Ulster Co., NY.
