  Newspaper Articles:
"Uriah Lane, for many years a resident of Mount Pleasant, died on Monday from the result of taking too much liquor and opium. It seems that he had been intoxicated several days and on Saturday he purchased a quantity of opium at Phoenicia, from the effects of which he died on Monday. He was 45 years old and left a large family."---The Kingston Freeman, Kingston, Ulster County, New York, issue 12 May 1875.
"Shandaken -- Uriah Lane was for many years a resident of Duval Hollow in the town of Woodstock. On Saturday, the 8th inst., he left home alive. He went to Mt. Pleasant and collected a bill. From there he proceeded to Phoenicia, where he purchased an ounce of opium. He then went to C. P. Bell's Hotel at West Phoenicia, and told the proprietor that he had taken poison and meant to kill himself. Bell induced him to give up the remainder of the opium, about half an ounce, and at once summoned a physician. Lane fell asleep at 10 o'clock Saturday evening, and died the next afternoon about fifteen minutes after he had reached home. Deceased was about 60 years and leaves a wife and several children."---The Kingston Argus, Kingston, Ulster County, New York, issue Wednesday Morning, 26 May 1875.
