He was buried in Wesleyan Methodist Church cemetery, Willow, Ulster Co., NY. Newspaper Article: "On Friday last, while a man named Zachariah Lane was engaged in cutting down a tree in the town of Woodstock, the tree is supposed to have become lodged in some manner, and in his attempt to extricate it, it suddenly came down, the trunk near the base striking him and knocking him under it. A workman nearby noticing a few moments afterwards that Lane appeared to have stopped chopping, went to ascertain the cause, when Lane was found under the tree quite dead. His body could only be extricated by cutting the tree in two and removing the log. He was a married man, and leaves a wife and one child, and was a worthy, industrious citizen. He served in the 20th Regiment during the war, and was wounded in one of the battles in which the Regiment was engaged."---The Kingston Argus, Kingston, Ulster County, New York, issue Wednesday, 14 Jun 1871.
