I am looking for information about my ggrandfather Andrew Jackson Nixon. He was born in TN on May 17, 1833. I don't know anything about his parents or brothers and sisters. He married Fannie Adkins Allison on November 11, 1866. He was a member of the 9th AR Reg. during the Civil War. He lived in South Arkansas ( Lincoln County ) until his death on December 14, 1910. I saw your post on one the web sites concerning the Nixons and am hoping you can help me. Thanks in advance for any info.

Thanks for sending this, Valerie. I've forwarded it to Sanford Musgrove, an old friend here in Austin, who I seem to recall told me once that he is a great grandson of Andrew Jackson Nixon. Haven't heard from Sanford in a long time -- hope he still has the same e-mail address. Also, I saw somewhere (Facebook maybe?) that Jon Nealis' computer is on the fritz and he'll be off e-mail for a while. So... we just do the best we can, don't we?!

My line from John Wallace Nixon is thru Andrew Jackson Nixon. I have found the family in 1850 census in GA and AJ Nixon in 1860 census at Jefferson County. AR and can trace him from there. I can't find the 1840 SC census that you mention in one of your posts showing the family in Chesterfield Dist. I would like the link to look this up if you would pass it on to me.
I also have gone to the library and looked up the obits for Alfred F. Nixon , Nancy and son Ollie who died at Pine Bluff, AR. This is the brother to AJ Nixon. I also found where he applied for Civil War Pension thru Jefferson County in 1911 and was approved. If you would like copies of the obits I would be happy to get them, scan and send to you.
  Thanks for your help

  Hello Valerie,
I have gone back to the library in Pine Bluff to look at an article on AJN that I was unable to make a copy of. The microfilm is so dark that in some places you can't make out what it is saying and will not make a copy. I got a lady from the library to help me and we got it to where you can read most of it but still could not make a copy. I made notes on what I could read.
The name of the article is " Sudden Deaths in Nixon Family" and was published on Saturday, December 17, 1910 in the "Pine Bluff Daily Graphic." In the article, AFN talks about his brother AJN dying from injuries he suffered in a fall from a wagon near his home in Lincoln County, and goes on to talk about other brothers having accidents or dying in the war. It mentions J. F. Nixon being killed at the second battle at Manassas in 1862 and another brother W. A. Nixon ( microfilm really dark here so not 100% sure of name ) was killed before the end of the war. J. H. Nixon was killed in 1888 after a team and wagon was involved in a runaway. the article talks about survivors being A. F. Nixon of Pine Bluff and ( dark spot ) X number of brothers in Georgia.
I am going to check in Little Rock to see if I can find the article there and get a copy.

  Hello Valerie,
This picture was in the bible with the Nixon information, am not sure but believe it is AJN in uniform. I also found his civil war records on footnote.com showing he deserted on July 5, 1864 and the next page shows he was captured near Chattahoochia in GA on July 5, 1864 and sent to Camp Douglas, ILL and then in April 1865 sent to New Orleans for exchange. I also found where he was awarded the Southern Cross of Honor by the David O. Dodd Chapter No. 212 of the UDC. Thought you might be interested in this tidbit of AJN's life.
