WWII served in USMC, 4th Division, Jul 1942-Jan 1946 participating in landings on Saipan & Tinian in Marianna Islands & on Iwo Jima; Commendation for taking over company & serving as company commander, having landed as a platoon leader on Iwo Jima operation. "Ace by Shmidheiser - John Shmidheiser of Lansdale, Pa, shot his first hole-in-one on the 125 yard 14th hole Monday using a 7-iron at Santa Rosa Country Club. Shmidheiser's wife, Marie, witnessed the feat." He had a total of 3 holes in one.
