Member Delta Upsilon Fraternity on 2 April 1938. June 1941 Graduate of Wharton School, U of PA, BS in Economics; Played baseball and pitched in sandlot league, Germantown High and Penn. After graduation took a job for Isthmian Steamship Company in N.Y. When Peral Harbor was hit in 1941 the company urged him to get Seaman's Certificate of Identification from the United States Department of Commerce, Bureau of Marine Inspection and Naviagation, should he want to join their fleet to keep shipping going. On Dec 29 Dad took the oath required by law to serve aboard American vessels of 100 tons gross and upward in the Deck Depart. in rating of Ordinary Seaman. Also endorsed for Engineer Dept. with rating of Wiper and Stewards Dept. with rating of Messman-Cabin Steward-Utility man. WWII served in USMC, 4th Division, Jul 1942-Jan 1946 participating in landings on Saipan & Tinian in Marianna Islands & on Iwo Jima; Commendation for taking over company & serving as company commander, having landed as a platoon leader on Iwo Jima operation. !GOLF: In a news item while vacationing one Feb in Bradenton, FL. "Ace by Shmidheiser - John Shmidheiser of Lansdale, Pa, shot his first hole-in-one on the 125 yard 14th hole Monday using a 7-iron at Santa Rosa Country Club. Shmidheiser's wife, Marie, witnessed the feat." He had a total of 3 holes in one.
GODFATHER: to Bruce Frederick Groshon, son of his fraternity brother and best man on 29 april, 1951 at St Paul's Episcoal in Chestnut Hill.
