Notes
a. Note:   Provo Herald, July,1964 Orem Boater Proves Tough Guy to Beat in River Race. OREM-Carroll Verbeck of Orem has proved to be a tough guy to beat in the Canyon Country Marathon River Race. Verbeck won the Modified Three Class in the river test six times out of the seven times it has been held, giving him the best won and lost record of any other boater who has ever entered the event. And the one year he didn't win, he finished third. thus, he has never finished out of the money in the river run. This year, with Sam Howland of Green River as his co-pilot, Verbeck missed setting a new record for his class of boat when he hit a sandbar and had to stop to repair a leaky gas line three miles from the finish line. Howland has served as Verbeck's co-pilot for the last three years and before that three of the boater's four sons took turns serving as co-pilots. The three sons are Carroll Jr. Raymond, and Ronald. A fourth son Terry,15 wasn't old enough to serve as a co-pilot this year, but he'll be eligible next year to help his dad go after his seventh victory in eight tries. NOTE; the race is from Green River, Utah, to Moab, Utah. A distance of 196 miles. It starts in Green River, Utah, goes down the Green River to the confluence with the Colorado River, then up the Colorado River, to Moab, Utah.
