Notes
a. Note:   [ShelGed.FTW] The following is from "Prairie, Pines and People - Winnebago County in a New Perspective" edited by James I Metz 1976. (Lumber) Mills lined the Fox (River) through Oshkosh, converting the logs floated down from the Northern forest into lumber and shingles for a timber hungry era. The first mill was built by Moris Firman at the foot of Bowen Street in 1847. But before his mill began producing, Foreman and Bashford, in the then separate community of Algoma (later annexed to Oshkosh) was constructed and sawed its first lumber. That mill was later owned by Philetus Sawyer (who became a US Senator). The third mill, built in 1849 was L.P. Shelden's. It was the first built on the south side where sawmills eventually concentrated On a small map the mill is listed as L.P. Sheldon and Sons [Fev Shel.FTW] The following is from "Prairie, Pines and People - Winnebago County in a New Perspective" edited by James I Metz 1976.
