Note: This was taken from Courage Enough Book II published in 1996 Lila was born on a ranch on Cottonwood Creek across from Burns, to Willis and Elgena Miller Wilson. Her brother, Arlo, was also born on the ranch. later they moved across the river and Willis bought a place from Herbert Hoar, who was a lawyer at Savage and later in Sidney. Vernon, a younger brother, was born on Easter Sunday at this place. Later Willis bought the Jens Miller farm. We always walked or rode horses to school. We went to school at Beef Slough School. Nearly all the neighbors rode horses so the school yard was a regular horse pasture. Each family took turns housing the school teacher. One year it was all cousins at the school. Godtfred Millers, Conrad Millers, Soren Millers and Vernon and I. Arlo was killed when his plane crashed while he was spraying grasshoppers. Vernon and his wife Kitty live on the home place. I graduated from Savage Hight School. Donald and I were married June 26th, 1943 in Glendive and moved to the Price farm. Our children are Sheryll, Jerry, Don Jr., Vernette and Arlen. When the kids were small we planted a windbreak around the farm buildings and the kids always thought that hoeing in the trees was the worst job ever. We had milk cows, pigs and chickens so everybody had chores to do. We separated our milk so we always had milk to drink and butter to use. We butchered chickens, beef and pigs and had plenty to eat. As the kids got older they all attended Breezy Flats School. Eventually the school was consolidated with Savage and a bus came out to transport the kids back and forth to school. The boys played basketball and eventually 8 man football was started. In the summer we found time for picnics and going fishing. Every fall we went antelope hunting at Ekalaka with Ted and Sophie Burau and Olaf and Ruby Vangness. We also did a lot of our deer hunting with the kids. We spent lots of Sunday afternoons going to ball games. Savage had a ball team and Don pitched for them. They played ball on what is the football field now. We went to church in the Lutheran Church at Savage and all our kids were confirmed there. don and I sang in the choir and Don sang in a quarter with Birger, Harold and Elmer Tombre. Don was a member of the Masonic Lodge and both he and Lila belongs to Stars. Their meetings were held in the upstairs of the McKinstry Hotel till both orders were closed and anyone who wanted to, joined the orders in Sidney. In the 1950's a group got together and formed the Burns Creek riders Saddle Club. We rode in parades in different towns. Corrals were built on Burns Creek and a lot of their activities centered there. A'moxies, which were amateur rodeos, were held with other clubs. All the kids learned to drive cars and tractors and trucks on the farm and as they grew older, were really a big help. Three of the boys are still driving big trucks, Sheryll, Jerry and Arlen. In 1969 we sold the farm and Don started working for the National Farmers Organization in Corning, IA. We moved to Iowa and were there for 143 years, then Don retired and we moved back to Savage. We live at 125 Yellowstone in Savage. Lila K. (Wilson) Price Obituary Funeral services for Lila K.
