  News; Sep 27, 1889: The Wellman Advance, Wellman, Iowa, Friday morning.
 ----------------------------- Dr. Clapp, of Iowa City, was down Friday to hold a consultation with Drs. Morgan & Gardner, at Peter Eitermiller's, and also to assist them in surgical operation on Otho Wilson's son, Elmer. They cut open his limb above the knee, and chipped off the dead bone. Since the operation the patient rests well, and will soon recover.

 Mar 20, 1902; THE SURPRISE VALLEY LINE. The Surprise valley Line is completed ready for the phones. It is we think one of the best and cheapest lines in the country. The reason is that it is made of good native poles, and No. 10 wire was used for both the main line and the connections. Each member furnished nine poles and paid $5 in money. This completed the line and left $20 in the treasury. The cost of the line not including the poles, was $62.75.
 The membership of the company is President, L.E. Stephens: vice pres, Geo. Whetstine; sec. Ed. Wellman; treas., Chas Mayer; directors, Ike Junkins, Charley Harvey, and Elmer Wilson; H.G. Moore, W.L. Dorrance, W.H. Dorrance, Chas. Mayer jr., D.D. McReynolds, Perrin Squire, Wm. Harvey and Martin Jones.

  Jun 15, 1905; Surprise Valley; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hicks and Daughter and Elmer Wilson and family spent Sunday at the Geo Whetstine home.
  Aug 10, 1905; Elmer Wilson had a horse killed by lightning one night last week. It was insured in the Washington county Mutual, and Elmer's loss was fixed at $50, which has already been paid.
  Sep 21, 1905; Surprise Valley; Elmer Wilson will erect a dwelling house on his father's farm this fall and will occupy it the coming year.

  Oct 4, 1906: Surprise Valley; Elmer Wilson and family Sundayed at Harve Freels. Dec 20, 1906: Surprise Valley; Elias Hole was happily surprised recently by his neigbors coming in and shucking about 450 bushels of corn, which was all he had out. Those present were: Charlie, Willie and Frank Mayer, Elmer Wilson, Harve Freel, John Crawford, Wm. Harvey, Martin Jones, Wm. Curl, Finley Hicks' hand.

  Oct 8, 1908; The farm belonging to the Otho Wilson estate will be sold at public auction by the referee, J.W. Teeter, on Saturday, Oct 24.
  Oct 28, 1908; The Otho Wilson (deceased) farm did not sell at referee's sale last Saturday, owing to the lease Elmer Wilson has on the place not expiring for two years hence. Under those conditions the referee, J.W. Teeter, did not feel disposed to go ahead with the sale.

  Sep 9, 1910; The referee sale of the Mrs. Wilson farm of 50 acres was sold at public auction last Saturday by J. W. Teeter, the highest bidder for the homestead of 40 acres being Geo. Whetstine who offered $162.375. The remaining 10 acres was sold seperate and went to W.W. Sigler for $105 per acre. $162.375 seems like a pretty high price for land, but the day is not far distant when the purchaser can turn it at a handsome profit. We have yet to hear of the man who lost money by buying Iowa corn land.
  Oct 8, 1910; Elmer Willson was down into Kansas on a land inspection tour and the country looked so good to him he expects to move his family there and make it their home.
  Oct 13, 1910: Hooper Dennison, Elmer Wilson, Pearl Nicolas, J. C. Wilson, Chas. Fritz, Lyman Bradford, Ed Norman, E. C. Karr, Jess Gardner, J. E. King, Cyrus Iden and Steve Perrin, attended a Woodmen blowout at Lone Tree Tuesday evening.
  Nov 17, 1910; A HUSKING BEE; A husking bee was held for Mrs. Elmer Willson last Thursday, and ten acres of corn husked and cribbed is the result of a few hours labor by the following named gentlemen:

  Obit: Thursday, Aug 9, 1923 Wellman Advance; Wellman, Washington Co, IA.
 Elmer Wilson, well known and kindly thought of because of his kind disposition, died friday morning, after a lingering illness, and death came as a welcome relief to his suffering.
  Elmer was always a kind, good-hearted fellow, an honest worker, and a man well thought of by the community.
 The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, and burial was made 1n the Wellman Cemetery.
  Otho Elmer Wilson, son of Otho and Mary M Wilson, was born near Wellman, Iowa, July 26, 1876 and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs Myrtle Eden, Aug 3, 1923, aged 48 years and 7 days.
  He had been in failing health for several months, but the last two weeks he had grown rapidly worse and in spite of all the human skill and loving care could do, the end came suddenly at 4:00 AM Friday morning.
  The deceased was married to Elizabeth Brandt Dec 6, 1899. To this union were born five children, as follows: Raymond Elmer; Mrs Myrtle Eden and Mrs Lilah Turnipseed, living near Wellman; Bertha Mary (deceased) and thel Marie, at home. Besides the children there are left to mourn three sisters; four half sisters and a host of other relatives.
  His father, mother, one sister and one brother preceded him in death. His entire life has been spent in this community, where he will be missed by a large circle of acquaintances and friends.
