Notes
a. Note:   Thomas was born Dec 25, 1901 at 8 Court Blair Street in Toxteth Park, Liverpool. His mother died in1906. His father left Liverpool on a merchant ship headed for New York and his whereabouts are unknown from that time on. Thomas was to be raised by an unknown woman (Kitty) who put him in an orphanage (probably about 1906 - 1907). He may have been there for about a year. He was seen there by a man named Pike who was on the Board of Governors of the Orphanage, and was returned to his grandmother Ellen Prescott. She worked for Mr. Pike, caring for his invalid wife.
Thomas was then taken in by his Aunt Libby (Elizabeth) who had married Tom Bourn. They lived in the Harrock Hill and Parbold area, near Wigan. They also lived at various times in Bamber Bridge and Catforth. I believe Tom was educated in Catforth.
He worked on a farm in the Elswick Catforth area, possibly about 1915 - 1916.
He then worked on a farm in Wharles for a man called Robert Cowburn possibly from 1917 to 1925. He met Jane Elizabeth Kirby on New Year's Eve 1925. He left for the United States in the following February.
Thomas went to Hornell, NY in the United States in about 1925, to visit with his cousin George Wesley Keeling. Since keeling lived in a house provided by the church, Tom could not stay with them. He lived with a Timmermans family in Hornell. He attended high school during the day and worked on the railway with Mr. Timmermans at night. I believe he cleaned engines and repaired engines.
He moved to Arizona where he worked for the Inspiration Consolidated Copper Company (1928 - 1930) in Miami. He spent a couple of months back in England one summer.
Tom returned to England via Hornell, August 8th, 1930. He married Jane Elizabeth Kirby on August 30, 1930.
After returning from the U.S., Thomas worked for Thomas and Ormond Whiteside, where he drove a truck. He also worked for the Council, driving a truck.
After their marriage, Tom and Jane lived at 7 Thompson Street (with Bill Kirby and Lydia Kirby), then at 17 Thompson Street. They moved to the Bakeshop at 29 Station Road about 1944 or 1945. On March 6, 1948, they left England for New York on the S.S. Washington. From New York, they went to Toronto. They bought a farm in Grey Township, near Brussels from Dan Neable.
