Charles Wakeford probably moved north to his brother William Wakeford at Sydney. Charles Wakeford was recorded entering into partnership with John Peck for civil engineering works and they were awarded, by the Sydney City Council, a contract to level the Sydney Common for 3,600 in 1867, but dissolved the partnership soon after (SMH 2/12/1867). Charles Wakeford passed forged cheques in Sydney and was tried at Central Police Court and sentenced to 2 years hard labour at Parramatta Gaol (SMH 23/09/1868). After release he joined his brothers, William Wakeford and George Wakeford in their bluestone crushing business at Pike Hill Quarry, Kiama, as he was recorded living with George Wakeford in Manning St, Kiama (Grevilles Dir 1872).
