Notes
a. Note:   N100 Notes from Virginia Louise Blumeyer: "My favorite toys were a life like doll called Bye-Lo-Baby and stuffed toys. I liked playing hide and seek with my sister and our cousins. I enjoyed skating and swimming. I remember my mother would play the piano while waiting for dad when they were going out. Dad was a good golfer and took us to swim when he played. We had lots of fire works on the 4th of July." "My first school was Wyman Elementary. After 1st grade, I attended Harvard in University City and Bristol Elementary and Junior High Schools in Webster Groves. I went to Webster High School. I was not a good student but I liked to read and enjoyed cooking class. I played basketball." "I did not finish high school. I worked part time at stores down town and baby sat. I remember mom and dad worrying about money since this was the time of the depression so things were not always good. I first met Jack when a friend brought him to my house. He was 18 and I was 15. We dated for 2 years and we decided to get married when he got a fairly decent job." Mike Lysell writes: "Since 1970 when they moved into the house at 431 N. Van Buren, the home became a focal point for family activities. By then, the five older children, the "first" family, were all married and on their own. The five younger children, the "second" family all lived there particularly the three youngest girls. But everyone came to visit and mother usually hosted all the holiday meals. Of the ten children, seven still live in the St. Louis area. "The last few years, mother was not able to move around as she once did. Often, she would get up in the morning and, using her walker, move into her chair in the den. This chair was positioned so that mother could look out the front window to see what the neighbors were doing. She also had a view of the front door so she could greet anyone who came in. When the weather permitted, she would move out to the porch so she could see more of the neighborhood. "While she did use a wheel chair when she left the house, she did get out. She had a standing appointment to get her hair done every week and she also went to quilting at her church."
