 He inherited a house and lot in the city of Hamilton, part of lot #71, purchased from Joseph Hough, also $200.00 owed to me by John Sutherland of Hamilton and for which I hiold his bond and mortgage on a tract of 200 a res adjoining or near the town of Rossville, dated February 22,1823. Samuel accepted $1400 as payment for the mortage in 1830 ( Sutherland had died).
  Butler County, OH, Cyclopedia, History and Biographical Section:, pp. 61-64: Miami University, established 6/1824, $ ? for Grammar school., $10 per college session, classes began 11/1824 with Samuel Fleming in the English and Scientific Deparetment and in the 3rd Class ( they accepted students only between ages 14 and 21 years, studies were the same as College Classes except Latin and Greek, accepted no under 16 unless they expected to study 2 years, in modern languages and get a diploma
