Ole Bjergo passed away around the age of 44. He was trying to feed the pigs. The pigs were very hungry. He died of a heart attack in the pig pen, before he brought the food to the pigs. As the story goes, the pigs thought he was the food. According to Dennis Bergo, "At the Bergo farms, it was important to have the chores done... once completed the family would gather for a breakfast feast of ham, bacon, sausage, juice, milk, cereal, etc., like eating a buffet. There was always lots and lots of food. I found in Northwood, Worth County, Iowa, cemetery, Sunset Rest that Oscar and Alvina were both buried on page 29 in lot 45. You had in Lake Mills, what is correct? Entry 6308, Ole T Bergo was son of Torsten Knudsen not Aslag Bergo. Aslag and Ole T Bergo were brothers. Did I send you those families? I think that I sent you the ship and date that Margit Aslachsdatter and Torsten Knudsen and family came over on. When We were in madison, I couldn't come out the door without the book of Immigrants. $80, so told jack early xmas present. It is Vol 2 1844-1846. This has the brother and sisters, Peder Aslachsen, Kari Aslachsdatter (my line) and Margit's family. Some I don't agree with as I have found all the records in the Norwegian Nes parish film. Margit, Kari and Peder's parents were Kari Pedersdatter and Aslag or Aslach Knudsen. Worth county births film #1477150 has all of Oscar's kids but not Clarine, when was she born? Oscar was Amos. Sorry i am full of questions. Do you have a church in Hempstead? I have cousins south of Houston and in lake Jackson..All part of my Lutheran Circuit rider family. I have started writing my Grozpapa Horn's circuit route. Jack and i have driven most of it. In June we went to a 100 anniversary of the Christ Lutheran church in Odessa that he started. Met a man who just turned 100 years. very bright, said that he had a sunday school class under Paster Horn. Asked him what kind of a voice did he have and ED could not remember. From: "Mark S. It is a hardcover book that is yellow colored. It is history contents about the 2 counties and their early settlers and it is indexed, it was published in 1884 by Union Publishing Co., Springfield, IL. There is an interesting part of Ole T. Tostensons accident with the hogs that was left out by Dennis Bergo and that is after he fell in with the hogs and was partially eaten it was a neighbor girl that found him. It was not explained to me what she was doing there at the time but she was only 3 years old, her name was Ida Windon daughter of John Windon and Serina Lein. Ida later married my grandfather, Knudt Bergo. There is also a land record for Torsten Knudsen document #24749 in Wisconsin for 40 acres. Torstens farm was later sold to a Dean of St. Olaf College and as far as I know is still in that family. Both Ole T. Bergo and Ragnhild are buried in Silver Lake cemetery and not in Winnebago. As far as I know Ole was not buried under the name Bergo he seldom if ever used that name. All the receipts that I have with his signiture are signed Tostenson, Thorstenson, or Torstenson. These are from banks county records and census. The one receipt I have that verifies his enlistment under the name Buerge is a transcript from the Dept of Interior for disability pension during service. 1880 census of IA. Worth Co. Bristol Twshp has Ole B. 45, Rachel (Ragnhild)30, Margarit 11, Mary 9, Thorson 7, Knudt & Caroline (twins) 6, Amos 3, Ingeber 11months. Oscar, Andrew, and Henery are not born yet, Margarit dies at age 19. Thorson later goes by the name Tom and dies in 1929, buried Sion cemetery. Caroline went by the name Carrie and married Sam Monson 1/6/1895. Ingeber is Bella and married Peder Pederson on 3/4/1899. Ole was buried as Ole T. Torstenson and it was around 1943 when Ragnhild was buried that the stone was changed to Bergo. There is a minister from Wisconsin that is now in Grafton,IA that is related through one of Ole's sibblings but I am not sure which one. A contact person there would be Violet Walk, she is the person that told me of him.
