Notes
a. Note:   "This close connection between Michigan and Ontario gradually lessened, especially so after the turn of the century. The turning point came in 1908 when the waterloo District ceased to have oversight of Michigan and a Michigan District was formed with its own bishop [note: from announcement in Evangelical Visitor, 2 Nov 1908, p.2]. The new bishop was Jonathan Lyons who had come from the Markham congregation, where he had been active in the early Sunday School. He had married Samuel Reichard's daughter Emmaline [sic], and had moved to Michigan in 1897, where in the following year he was elected to the ministry. He served as bishop until his return to Ontario in 1931 to engage in mission work in Welland. 'In his prime,' a writer noted in 1945 at Lyon's [sic] death,'he' was one of the ablest ministers in the Brotherhood. He had a very tender ministry, and was unswervingly loyal to the doctrines and practices of the church.' [quoted from Evangelical Visitor: 4 June 1945, p. 8.] E. Morris Sider. The Brethren in Christ in Canada: Two Hundred Years of Tradition and Change. Evangel Press: Nappanee, Indiana, 1988. "...I know that he had a carbuncle on the back of his neck and if it had not been stopped would have been fatal, that was what caused the heavy scar...died of complications from [diabetes] and [gall bladder surgery]."
