a. Note:   Source: The Moore Family 1759 1977 pinted in Seward, NE in 1977. Preston-Moore-Iames-Clark Website Ceph Moore's History from 1886 TANNER LEGACY Website John Moore served during the last five years of the American Revolution. "He was Minute Man in the New Jersey Blues. At one time in the War, he was the only man that was awake. He walked out a piece for water and saw the British had them nearly surrounded. He waked up all he could and cut back through the British three times to urge the drowsy and wary Patriots out. He here got the praise of saving the American Army. After the war, He went to the western part of Pennsylvania to Red Stone and Tomehawked around a tract of Splendid Land where [which] had on Some good Springs..." (J. Cephas Moore - March 3, 1886). After the War, John Moore moved from New Jersey to Moore's Run (near Barton, Allegheny, Maryland). He meant to go further than this, but when he got as far as Fort Cumberland, Maryland, his horses were tired. "He drove up to His Uncle Alexander Moore's on Georges Creek, Md. to rest a few days. Here He was persuaded to settle on Moore's Run on a Tract called "Pretty Hole." Other additions were called "Moore's Farm," "Shugar Land," "High Hill," "High Hill Corrected," and "Coal Chester." Moore's Graveyard is in an area now called "Coalchester."
