Note:   n application; Ordered that passports be prepared for the following persons to travel through the Creek Nation of Indians, to wit, one for Gideon Seeley with his wife and one child and one for Benjamin Sikes--which were presented and signed. Benjamin signed his marriage bond on 10 January 1816, William Brown was a co-signer. "Know all men by these presents that we Benjamin Sikes and William Brown are held formally bound unto the Governor of the Mississippi Territory.....in the sum of Two Hundred Dollars.....sealed with our seals and dated this 10th day of January 1816......." Marriage record filed Book B - Page 14, Wilkinson County, Mississippi. In the 1816 Wilkinson County, Mississippi state census Benjamin was listed as being over 21 years of age. He was living with his wife Catherine who was listed as being under 21 years of age. He had one son listed as being under 21 years of age, I believe this is Jesse by his first marriage, since Jackson Sikes was born in 1818. In 1820 Benjamin was 38 years old and living in Wilkinson County, Mississippi. Listed as living in the household was; one male between the ages of 26 to 45, one female between the ages of 16 to 26, and one male under 10 years of age. In the 1825 Wilkinson County, Mississippi State census Benjamin living with his wife Catherine. He had two sons and two daughters. There was one child listed as being born in 1824. In 1830 Benjamin was 48 years old and living in Wilkinson County, Mississippi. Listed in the household were 2 males under 10 years old, 1 male 10 to 20 years old, 1 male 20 to 40 years old, 3 females under 10 years old, and one female 20 to 40 years old. In 1840 Benjamin was 58 years old and living in Wilkinson County, Mississippi. Listed as living in the household was; one male between the ages of 50 to 60, one female between the ages of 40 to 50, one female between the ages of 15 to 20, and two males between the ages of 10 to 15 years of age. In 1850 Benjamin was 68 years old and living in Ward 3, Township 21, Claibourn Parish, Louisiana. He was living alone. Benjamin's occupation was planter with a real estate value of $5000.00. In 1860 Benjamin was 78 years old and living in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. He was living alone. Benjamin's occupation was farmer with a real estate value of $5000.00 and personal property value of $5000.00. Benjamin died 28 June 1864. I believe he may be buried in an unmarked grave in Saint Lukes Cemetery on Bull Hill, Webster Parish, Louisiana. Succession of Benjamin Sikes Will, Docket #1132, June 28, 1964.
