a. Note:   Jacob Hohl and his family immigrated to the United States from the Bavaria area of Germany in 1847. They built a rock home located three miles north and one mile west of Donnellson, Iowa. The house, now remodeled, still stands at this time in the same location. The rock was hewn by hand and was hauled from a quarry east of Franklin, Iowa. There was a high barn also located on the property. The livestock resided below what was a driveway into the barn and grain was stored above. Jacob Hohl was a farmer raising grain and livestock.
