Note: nd, according to Glen, was a Western Icon. In his profession as a bartender and bar owner, he had traveled and lived all over the Western states before settling in Utah. He knew Wyatt Earp and Doc Halliday (who apparently was insane). Many family members that John was an under sheriff in Kansas or Colorado as a young man. There is no proof as yet. It does appear that he lived for some years in Colorado before settling in Utah. He was an owner or part owner of a saloon in Eureka, Utah, and when this was sold, he used the money to buy a large home in Salt Lake City for his family. His son-in-law, daughter and their eight children always lived with him in his home. With the family facing foreclosure in 1933, they came to Los Angeles where they were forced to take a very small house with one bathroom. Their ties to Salt Lake City were strong, and the old home was missed. As many trips as possible were taken home to see family members and renew old friendships.

Note: nia, on November 11, 1940 at 9: 45 a.m. Length of stay in the community, 7 years. In the United States, 75 years. He was not a veteran and had no social security number. He was listed as White, widowed, and his spouse's name was Eva Black Nugent.(Should be Blanche) His date of birth was listed as April 18, 1853 at Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Age at time of death was 87 years, 6 months, 23 days. His usual occupation was Bartender in the hotel industry. The informant on his death certificate was his daughter, Mabel Mary Nugent Malin with whom he had lived for years. He was buried at Pueblo, Colorado, beside his first wife who died in childbirth. Cause of John's death, Myocadarditis with secondary senility. One of the great unfair tragedies of John's life was that he never received a pension or any financial assistance from the government although he had lived and paid taxes in the United States since a small boy. [Donna] If he had naturalization papers, they have not been located, as yet.
