In hospital sick at White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, August 20, 1861 to November 1, 1861. Killed in action May 5, 1864 at the Wilderness Captain Jonas A. Lipps of Company H. 50th Virginia , :buried (him) and marked his grave May 5, 1864." His brothers, John Polson Horne, Samuel P. Horne, William Horne, Charles Wesley Horne, Henry Horne, Stephen Horne, Nicholas Johnson Horne and Thomas Horne also served in Civil War . A mention of Jesse'death is found in The Abingdon Virginia dated June 10, 1864 under Casualties commencing at the Wilderness Church and contining to Spotsylvania Courthouse. Jesse was born September 25, 1825 in Russell County, Virginia and died May 5, 1854, son of Nicholas and Nancy (Donahue) Horne.
