a. Note:   Jesse came on a boat (SS Canopic) 2nd class to Boston Harbour in July 14, 1913. His boat ticket: Pofita Delgada. From there they took a train to Half Moon Bay. The train trip to 5 days with lots of stops. They would eat bread and bananas. They lived with Uncle Jess (Eugenia's brother) in Half Moon Bay where they worked for him. Jesse said that he (Uncle Jess) was mean to them (the kids). Francisco worked for the water department in the Azores until he passed away. The house they lived in went with the job, so when de died they had to move. There was as elderly man who wanted to marry Eugenia (about her father's age) but she didn't want to, so her only other option was to move to the states and live with her brother Jess. In the states she worked in a leather factory, a cannery, and she cleaned houses for a living. Jesse went thru the 5th grade. He worked at a golf course as a caddy and made good money - enough to get a two bedroom house for he, Eugenia, Amelia and John to live in Menlo Park on Florence Lane (in a 2 bedroom, Spanish Style) home. He owned Snelling Garage for approx. 25 yrs.
 He came here in 1913 when he was 9 yrs old. Now in this day and time Sao Benito is a village within the city of Angra Do Heroismo on the island of Terceira, Azores. He went thru the 6th grade. He became a citizen and changed his name from Jacinto to Jesse on April 27, 1937. He and Elizabeth Louise lived in Menlo Park at the time of citizenship. They moved to Merced in 1971. Hadley Funeral Chapel - Visalia CA and Calvary Cemetery, Merced, CA. He died at 5:45 am.
