Notes
a. Note:   r certificate of baptism dated 1934 Church of Imaculate Conception,Tome,NM. Copy in possession of Kent Williams Children's names and birthdates are from Grandmother Paulina's ledger. Didio "Buddy" Saavedra also said that Maximilian was voted constable in a General Election held in the County of Socorro, New Mexico on the 9th day of Jan., 1899 and Signed by the Board of County Commissioners. H. G. Baca, Probate Clerk. 2) " A letter from Betsy Beatty to Paul Tripp. "A TRANSLATION OFALEDGERWRITTEN BY PAULINA SAAVEDRA" Postmarked 20 Nov 1999 Dear Paul, 1. This is an English translation of the ledger kept by Paulina Saavedra in which she recorded the births of her children. Max and I made a copy of the ledger and had it notarized when we needed to get a delayed birth certificate for his mother, Sofia Saavedra Beatty. Unfortunately we did not copy the last page of the ledger which recorded the birth of Didio(Buddy) Saavedra. Paulina spelled the last name Sabedra. Her name is recorded as Paulina but pronounced Pablina. (I am recording my comments in). Sorry that this took so long but I had to get help from 4 different Spanish speaking friends as it was written in oldstyle Spanish. It was not only necessary to understand the language and decipher the writing but to understand the customs. 2. In the year of our Lord 1896 on the day 3 of the month of February was born Amalie Sabedra. day Monday her godparents were Tomas Savedra and Vidal Romero. She was born in Lemitar, New Mexico. County of Socorro, New Mexico. (I have never heard of this person unless she is Maximiliano's sister. I do not think that she is due to the age. I talked to other family members and no one has ever heard of her. This may be a child that died.) 3. In the year of 1900 the day 28 of November day Wednesday was born Frank Sabedra his godparents were Francisco Garcia and Encarncion Baca. He was born in Lemitar and baptized in Socorro. (Aunt Virginia told us that Encarncion Baca and Hegenio Garcia were Paulina's grandparents). 4. In the year of our Lord of 1903 the day 15 of July at 7:00 in the night was born Virginia Sabedra. Her godparents were Vincente Sabedra and Emilia Sabedra. She was baptized in Socorro, 5. New Mexico. 6. In the year of our Lord 1905 the day 16 of April was born Biatriz Sabedra. Her godparents were Sisto R (or possibly B) Perea and Beatriz Sabedra. She was baptized in the church of Socorro, New Mexico. 7. In the year of our Lord 1907 was born the day 8 of April Hegenio Dianrio (he was called Gene Saavedra) his godparents were Esidoro Garcia and Ginabeba Garcia. (Paul, Max Beatty said that Ginabeba was Paulina'ssister) He was baptized in San Antonio, New Mexico. 8. In the year of our Lord on 1908 the day 7 of December was born Encarnacion Albita Sabedra. Her godparents were Bebian Tafoya and Paulita Garcia de Tafoya. She was baptized in San 9. Antonio, New Mexico. 10. In the year of our Lord 1872 the day 5 of the month of June was born a child whose name was Maximiliano Sabedra. He was baptized for the Lord by Priest Juan Bautista Ballirer. He was the seventh son of Jose Tomas Sabedra and Maria Vidal Romero. (Tomas Saavedra was actually named Tomas Luis Saavedra but it was common practice in those days to give a boy the first name of Jose at the time of baptism. This was the phase that caused so much delay in the translation). His godparents were Juan Andres Perea and Manuelita Romero. He was born in 11. Tome, New Mexico. (Paul, I have no idea why Paulina put Grandfather Maximiliano in here. He was the father of the children. It is written in old style Spanish and four of my friends worked on it). 12. In the year of 1911 the day 7 of the month of July was born Sofia Saabedra. Her godparents were Seledon Saabedra and Vidal Romero. (Seledon was referred to by Max as Uncle Seledon. I think that meant that he was a brother of Grandpa Max. The family often referred to "Aunt" and "Uncle?" for people of an older generation who could be second cousins, etc. Vidal Romero was Max's mother). She was baptized in SanAntonio, New Mexico. 13. In the year of our Lord of 1912 on the day 18 of October was born Luis Tomas Sabedra. His godparents were Francisco Luna andFrancisquitaGarcia.(Max Beatty said that Francisquita was Paulina Sabedra's sister). 14. I hope that you find this helpful. I am also sending my notes on the family. All my research was done at the San Luis Obispo LDS Church Family History Library. I will also make copies of my informationon the more recent family members, later. 15. I will try to go through all the pictures sometime this winter and will send copies of what I have. I do have some of the old family pictures. 16. If there is anything else that I can help with please let me know. I am anxious to see your results. Sincerely, Betsy Beatty
