DURANT, ONCE OF MORRISTOWN, DIES -- MORRISTOWN - Verna A. Durant 86, a resident of Fairport Baptist Home, Fairport, and formerly of Morristown, died Wednesday at the home, where she had been a resident since December 1993. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fox Funeral Home, Ogdensburg, with the Rev. James Carr, (son-in-law) of Mrs. Durant officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Eel Weir, Oswegatchie Twp. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where a ritual service will be at 7:30 p.m.,given by the Valley of the Thousand Isles, Chapter 382, Order of the Eastern Star. Donations may be made to the Memorial Fund at the Morristown United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association of Central New York. Surviving are a son, Gerald C., Alpine, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. James (Dawn) Carr, Mannsville, and Mrs. David (Faye Yvonne) Pospiech, Fairport; 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A daughter, Joan, died at age 12 on March 31, 1943. Two sisters, Greta MacLean and Mrs. Earl (Jessie) Darling, two brothers, Murry and Keith MacLean, also died before her. Born Dec. 23, 1908, in Chesterville, Ontario, a daughter of John and Alzina (Beckstead) MacLean, she attended local schools, She also attended St.Lawrence State Hospital School of Nursing, Ogdensburg, for two years. She married Ross C. Durant Dec. 23, 1929, at the First Presbyterian Church, Ogdensburg, with the Rev. William McIntyre, officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Durant lived in Ogdensburg before moving to the Galilee area of Black Lake, where they operated a dairy farm. They later moved to Morristown Center where they farmed on the English Settlement Road. Mr. and Mrs. Durant moved to the village of Morristown in 1963 and she worked part-time at the Cedars Nursing Home, Ogdensburg. Mr. Durant died July 28, 1986. After her husband's death, she moved to Fairport. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Morristown, and the Ladies Guild of the same church. She was a member, past matron and former secretary of the Valley of the Thousand Isles, Chapter 382, Order of the Eastern Star.
