Notes
a. Note:   Burrell Akers was possibly, even likely a private in Civil War. I have found at least three different regiments that were all formed in KY, and all had a Burrell or Burrel or Burwell Akers in them. They are as follows: 14th KY Volunteer Infantry E & F Company (same guy in both) 22nd KY Volunteer Infantry H Company 53rd KY Infantry K Company I have requested the pension records for the first two. The guy in the 22nd was given a disability discharge. I found a couple of pension applications. One of them lists the beneficiary/widow as Harreit E. Akers. I have an Message Board post from Rick Akers, that quotes a TEK article by Mrs. W.E. Spresser, R2 Wellston, OH 45692, that says: "Burwell Akers, born Franklin County, Va, died 17 Nov 1894. He was married for the second time to Harriet Evline Deal, 5 Mar 1889, at Willard, KY. He was previously married. His first wife died 9 Dec 1874. Harriet received pension, paid last 4 Feb 1910. This is the Burwell who was married to Malinda Bowe, as I have records from a film of vital statistics stating 13 Sept 1859 Mary Akers, age 1, Parents Burwell and Malinda Akers. He enlisted in Civil War, at Grayson, Carter County, KY., 22 Oct 1861" I haven't looked for a Harriet Akers in the census yet, but based on the 1870 and 1880 census, this makes sense. Burrell and Malinda are listed with the same kids in the 1850 and 1870 census. But only Burrell with the remaining kids is listed in 1880. There are also two Deal families listed beside Burrell in 1880. All of the census' were taken in Carter County, KY. On of the searchs I did on Ancestry.com, confirmed the 2nd Burrell Akers, that I uncovered on the internet. This is the one from the 22nd. That guy is listed as enlisting 22 Oct 1861. The same day as Rick Akers' Burwell. This was the Burrell with the disability discharge. On Harriet's application papers the first line which was for invalid was filled in. The 3rd Burrell, the one in 53rd, enlisted in April and was discharged in Oct 1865. The war ended in May 1865. He couldn't have saw much action. Found a Evaline Deal, married to Willis, in 1880 KY Carter Co Census, not far from Burrell Akers. She had children, James, 6, Eva, 4, and John Edward 1. In the 1900 census Harriet Akers is listed, no husband, with children Eva, 24 and Willie 14. Mrs Spresser's article list's her Burrell's 2nd wife as Harriet Evline Deal. Based on this and the two information on the Eva's matching, I would say it's a real good chance that Mrs Spresser has this right. I recieved the pension files for the two Burrell Akers. My 2g-grandfather was without a doubt the one, who served in the 22nd KY Volunteer Infantry. In the file is a deposition from Burrell's 2nd wife, Harriett Evaline Cabble Deal Akers. In she says that Burrell's first wife was Malinda Bowe. She also tells of when Malinda dies. There is also a deposition from Burrell's doctor attesting to Burrell's day and manner of death.
