Notes
a. Note:   2nd Great Grandfather of Brenda Schenfeld Dean A letter written by Chris Lell to Adam Peter Schenfeld in the 1970s says that Adam's grandfather was Jacob Schenfeld. The letter further listed the offspring (Adam Peter's Aunts and Uncles) that total 12 people, counting Adam Peter's father, Adam. A book written by Lynne Gair, who is a descendant of this same man, but through a different child (Joseph, Adam Sr.'s brother) says that his name was John (likely Johannes or Johan). Both sources say that this man's wife was a lady with the surname Klein. Lynne's book also lists the offspring, but there are several differences. Those differences could be explained away, thru ommisions, middle name useage, or death. It is very likely that John and Jacob are the same man. But his exact name is not known. It could either, or, or both. It could easily be Jacob Johannes or Johannes Jacob. I am listing it as Jacob, as that is what is coroborated in the census records. Also, as mentioned the Lell letter states that Jacob/Johannes' wife was Maridart Klein. The Gair book states the wife's surname was Klein, first name unknown. In the 1858 census there is a Jacob and Dorotea Schenfeld, apparently recently married, as they have no kids. The Lell letter has the first children of that union coming along in the late 1850's or 1860. There is a Jacob Schoenfeld and Maria Dorotea, but her last name was Kloster, and they have 5 children already. There is only one other Schoenfeld man in 1858 that is of the right approximate age. That is Johan Georg, age 25. But he is unmarried at that time. So while he is still possible, I think that the Jacob and Dorotea Schoenfeld, both age 21 in the 1858 Marienfeld census are the right people to have been the parents of both Adam (b1869) and Joseph (b 1872).
