Notes
a. Note:   Great Grandfather of Brenda Schenfeld Dean A letter written to Adam Peter Schenfeld, son of Adam Schoenfeld, by Chris Lell, says that Adam Schoenfeld's parents were Jacob and Maridart Schenfeld. Maridart's maiden name was KLEIN. A review of the 1858 Marienfeld, Russia census finds two Schoenfeld families; a Jacok and Maria Dorotea (age 34 & 32, in 1858) Schoenfeld, and a Jakob and Dorotea (both age 21) Schoenfeld. The ages of these people allow that either could be Adam's parents, but as Adam was not born for another 11 years and was not supposed to have been the oldest, the younger pair seems more likely. The Jacob/Maria Dorotea pair is also found in the Pfeifer census of 1857, but her maiden name is listed as KLOSTER. This pair has four children already. At least two of those children are unknown to the two sources I have, that have idenfied Adam's siblings. Those two sources do not match, exactly, but list 8 common children. A total of 9 children on one, and 12 on the other. Concerning those siblings of Adam's, The oldest is supposed to have been a Jacob Schoenfeld, born between 1857 and 1860. There is not Adam Schoenfeld in the 1858 census of age 2 or less (age 11 is youngest), so we can assume that either that information is wrong, or the family has not started yet. Assuming the later, and that Jacob is born in 1860, that would mean his parents would have to be at least 16 years old in 1858. That eliminates all but the two aforementioned families, plus unmarried Johann Gerog (age 25). The letter further states that Adam's family originated from the village of Pfeifer. The Marienfeld census does have the Maria Dorotea pair coming directly from Pfeifer. The other pair came to Marienfeld, via the village of Husaren. However, further research on Pfeifer censuses has uncovered that the Jakob/Dorotea pair left Pfeifer to go to Husaren. So technically they are from Pfeifer as well. Both pairs share a common Schoenfeld ancestor. Research done by Lynne Gair, of Canada, of Adam's brother Joseph, also has their mother's maiden name as KLEIN (KLINE), but has his father's name as John. A bit contridicty, but the evidence is slightly in favor of the 21 year old Jacob and Dorotea Schoenfeld, as Adam's parents. Adam immigrated to the United States on Oct 25, 1911. His entry was at the port in Baltimore, MD. He made his passage aboard the SS Main, out of Breman, Germany. His wife, Margaret, and their four boys (Stephen, Joseph, Adam, and George) did not make the trip with him. They arrived the following year, on Dec 22, 1912, through the same port and disembarking from the same German city. Their ship was the Barbarossa.
