Note:   teran of the War of 1812, worked his way up in the Indiana militia, journeyed west to the War with Mexico but had to return due to deaths in his family (wife, son, and later, another son), and served in a 30 day regiment in the War Between the States, with the Levi Fraser Bennington, who would be the father of grandson Herman Pearce's second wife, Flora. Col. Pearce was a horseman and was interested in politics, which passes down. He was survived by one of about nine children, and had lost a number of grandchildren; he reportedly stated he never remarried after his wife expired, as he didn't want to go through all of that (loss) again.
