Needs to be determined from Indiana veterans records if he served in the War Between the States and was buried away from home. But no trace of his name was found on Miami Co., IN cemetery lists or on Indiana military records. One also wonders if his cousin, William Mitchell Pearce, a teacher in St. Omer, IN, used the name "Franklin" for identification when student attacked him with stove wood, bashing in his skull, from which he later died. It appears now that was probably William Mitchell Pearce, but the court papers indicated the teacher as "Franklin" Pearce; perhaps William Mitchell had learned his cousin expired and he simply used the name before he expired in 1864.
