Text: Ernest M. Whalley, Victim in Ship Blast Buried Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the chapel of the Bonney-Watson Undertaking Company, with Rev. Dr. W. A. Major, pastor of the Mount Baker Presbyterian Church officiating. Services were attended by a large number of friends and employees of Libby, McNeill & Libby Company, of whom Mr. Whalley was an employee. He was killed last monday as the result of an explosion on the motorship Libby Maine, of which he was chief engineer. Mr. Whalley was born in Bradford, England. He moved to San Francisco when he was quite young. He went to Alaska in 1897 during the Klondike rush, and was engaged in mining and newspaper work in Dawson and Fairbanks. For the past eight years he had been chief engineer on the Libby Maine, making his home in Seattle. Surviving him are his widow Mrs. Grace Whalley, and a daughter, Dorothy W. Whalley, and four sisters and two brothers residing in California.

Text: One Killed by Blast on Vessel Moored at Lake Union Dock Ernest M. Whalley, chief engineer on the fishing vessel Libby Main, operated by Libby, McNeil and Libby, was killed shortly after noon today when a compressed air line aboard the boat exploded while the craft was moored in Lake Union at the foot of Hamlin Street. Flying pieces of metal narrowly missed striking other members of the crew. Mr. Whalley was a veteran with the fishing fleet and lived with his family at 2230 Tenth Ave. N. He was 50 years old.

Text: Fisherman Killed When Pipe Bursts Ernest M. Whalley, veteran fisherman and chief engineer on the fishing vessel Libby Main, operated by Libby, McNeil and Libby, was almost instantly killed yesterday afternoon when a high pressure air pipe aboard the boat burst, scattering bits of metal that pierced Whalley's body. The explosion occurred at noon at the foot of Hamlin Street on Lake Union where the fishing craft is moored. Whalley lived at 2230 Tenth Avenue North.
