John Lee and his wife Tabitha Arnold Lee, gave a lot, for the purpose of divine worship, to the Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. Mt. Hermon Methodist Church, one mile west of the present town of Lynch Station, was the church built on the site. DB 30, p. 441 Campbell Co. Wyatt A. Lee gave to the Trustees of Mt. Hermon Church a plat of land adjoining the land on which the Church stands and which had been given to the Church by his father John Lee, son of William Lee. The plat given by Wyatt A. Lee was to be used for the purpose of securing a burial ground for the Church - Dated Oct. 13, 1856. Description of the old Mt. Hermon Church one mile west of the present town of Lynch Station. The first Mt. Hermon Church was formed in 1825, believed to have been founded by Ralph Smith who owned a large estate adjoining the Church property on the West side. The land now known as the Graham place. The first building was a log house, erected in 1827 on the present site which was donated "for the use of the Methodist Episcopal Church" as shown by a deed dated November 13, 1827 from John Lee and wife Tabitha Lee, to Mosby Arnold, Abner Early, Wiatt Lee, Jacob Early, Thomas Calloway, Henry Moorman Trustees. This building had a gallery in the rear with outside entrance for the use of slaves. The three back seats on the first floor under the gallery were for the use of the Negro mannies, taking care of their mistresses babies and small children. The families of the above trustees, together with the Douglas, Anthony, Lee, Smith, Haley, Frazier and other families in the area, constituted the first members in this area, but the congregation came from nearly all the families for miles around. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/campbell/history/chronicles-villages.txt Lynch (R. R. Station, Clarion) The land which Lynch Station covers was originally owned by the family of Lee who were large landholders in that section; the Lee home, built partly of stone, was said to be over one hundred years old when it was recently burned. In 1825 Mt. Hermon (Methodist) church, one mile west of the present town, was built on land donated by John Lee, and, excepting one at Leesville, was the only church within a radius of many miles: pastors there were Milton Andrews, Nathaniel Thomas, J. A. Proctor, John Harmon, Joshua Hunter, etc. The old church was torn down and a larger one erected in 1875; the discarded timbers were used in the construction of a school house which was taught by Mrs. Charles Douglass, dau. of Ralph Smith: prior to this a private school was conducted on Ralph Smith's land by Miss Elizabeth Lambert. Upon the completion of the Lynchburg and Danville Railway in 1873 a station was settled upon land belonging to William Frazier, which he had purchased from the estate of John Laughon, who married into the Lee family. It was given the name Lynch Station because Charles Henry Lynch, a landowner several miles east, had been instrumental in securing subscriptions for financing the railroad. The Fraziers had long been landholders in the vicinity, their home being a mile northwest of Lynchs. Other near residents were John W. and Benjamin H. Anthony; Rev. Milton E. Andrews; Wyatt, Alexander and D. R. Arnold, Henry W. Adams; Benjamin and Alexander Brooks, Rev. Milton L. Bishop; Charles A. Douglass, Sr.; Edward Lynch; Dr. Thomas L. Dillard; the Dearing family, Anselm and Wm. O.
