Note: 1. From "A Georgia Heritage". p.3 - written by Robert Edge Johnston His address in 1997: Robert Edge Johnston, 5539 Aztec Dr, La Mesa CA 91 942-2110 2. Name appears in Cumberland Co. records in January 1755 Cumberland Co. DB 2, p. 368 - Thomas Arnold and Mary granted Robert Johns 280 acres "on the north side of Great Guinea Creek". Rec: 4/24/175 8. He and his wife were residents of Albemarle Co., Va. at the time of this record. Received 100 acres from his father's estate probably in 1775. Cumberland Co. DB 5, p. 415, rec: 5/27/1776 - sold 100 acres on Tanwallet Run that had originally been his father's to his brother Moses Arnold as well as an additional 100 acres "bounded by William Davenport and Benjamin Sims. Both he and his brother were shown at that time as residents of the Parish of Littleton, County of Cumberland. Thomas Arnold was a Revolutionary War Patriot. Public Service Claims, Prince Edward County Court Booklet, Requisition C9603, document that he was paid for furnishing supplies in support of the War of Revolution, 28 January 1782. . . . . . Thomas removed to Wilkes County Georgia (that part of Wilkes County that became Oglethorpe County), in which he lived from 1792-1796. In 1792, he also purchased 230 acres of land in Franklin County, Georgia, on waters of the Oconee River from Walton Harris Sr. of Greene County, Ga. He was shown as a resident of Wilkes Co. in this record (Franklin County Deed Book 8, p 89 and 90, rec: 11 December 1792.) His will was signed and written on 18 April 1793 in Wilkes Co. and recorded 29 June 1796 in Oglethorpe County. William, Thomas, and Zachariah were named in his will as his three eldest sons, and were also named executors. Real and personal property left to his wife Mary. At her death it was to be divided among his ten children. These records may be found in Oglethorpe County Will Book A, pages 32-33. His estate settlement is documented in detail in Oglethorpe County Inventory and Appraisement Bo ok 8, p. 59-60, dated 11 January 1799. P. 163: 6/25/1765: John Thompson and Company, plaintiffs; against BENJAMIN ARNOLD, defendant; in debt. This suit abates, the defendant being no inhabitant of this county. 4. Cumberland County Order Book 1770-1772 P. 161: 1/28/1771 James and Robert Donald and Company, plaintiff against JOHN ARNOLD, defendant; in case.
